A Year in Review : 2023 with MLEF

February's Giving Hearts Day : In 2023, MLEF's Giving Hearts Day donations along with donors' Food For Thought designations enabled us to provide $25,000 to the the school district for milk and snack funding for elementary students who would otherwise go without. March Phonathon success : Each spring, MHS students make phone calls to secure donor pledges for Spud Scholars. With the help of Phonathon pledges, pass-through scholarships and our endowed scholarships, MLEF awarded $98,000 to 79 graduates and 4 MHS Alumni who are pursuing and furthering their education in 2023. The next Phonathon will begin in March 2024. A special thank you to the students in Key Club and National Honor Society for volunteering their time toward our Spud Scholars program!

New partnership with SpudsTV : Our Big Orange and Spuddy Club Sponsors are included in the district calendar, have logo visibility on SpudsTV broadcasts, and are invited to exclusive pregame Club events. We held the first Club event following the commissioning of the new gym, giving sponsors a sneak peek of the Spud Zone. July's VIP Parking for Moorhead's 565600H & AHH fireworks : We are so thankful for Moorhead Business Association's partnership to include MLEF as one of three nonprofits to benefit from the VIP Parking for our city's fireworks show. We look forward to this annual celebration, bringing the community together!

Revamp of the 152Club Membership : We now offer an activity pass to 152Club members, which grants each pass holder a free popcorn at any regular season home sporting event. Membership also includes a 152Club pin and an invite to our exclusive pregame Club events. Inaugural Spud Giving Days : Did you see us in the SpudMobile this fall? We hosted the first Spud Giving Days during this year's Homecoming, doubling our campaign goal thanks to donor match giving from R.D. Offutt Company, Gate City Bank, Cami Sagvold & American Family Insurance, and the Leiseth and Rockstad families.

Spud History Book : We have been so pleased with the interest in the production of "Once A Spud... Always A Spud" to commemorate the district's 150th Anniversary. Shipping orders were shipped directly from the publishing facility last week. Our next book distribution date will be January 4th, 4:30-6pm, at Horizon Middle School. November's Spud Impact : In 2023, with the help of memorials and designated gifts, MLEF awarded $13,000 in grant funding toward various projects and activities led by Moorhead staff this past fall. We provide grants and designated gifts to Moorhead Area Public Schools, educators and staff for the main areas of Academics, Activities, Arts and Athletics. Email us for information on our Spud Impact endowment. We are grateful to Moorhead Schools' staff who are dedicated to supporting students in our schools in so many ways!

Additional grant impact : MLEF was awarded a prestigious $10,000 grant from Alex Stern Family Foundation to help with the growing issue of truancy within the district's population of homeless students. Transportation is one of the biggest barriers for regular attendance and MLEF has provided the Alex Stern Family Foundation grant funds to help with the purchase of a van dedicated to transporting students to school. We, at MLEF and the school district, have so much gratitude for this funding that directly impacts the students and their education. Thank you, Alex Stern Family Foundation!
