SLED Mini-Grants Make a BIG Difference

More Mini-Grants than ever have been in action at all San Leandro schools, and it is truly a joy to see the difference they can make. Teachers are able to apply directly for projects and field trips, and their students clearly enjoy the results.

We have received photos that show how headphones with microphones help students work with speech to text when accomodations are needed. We saw the Nature Van in action at Jefferson Elementary that gave kids an up close look at animal skeletons as they learned about habitat and the environment. We saw how a field trip to the Oakland Zoo gave an important opportunity for adult transition students at SLHS.

Not only do classroom projects and field trips offer some FUN to students, they really have a lasting effect as they complement lessons and boost memory and learning.

Summer Internships for High Schoolers are Live!

The San Leandro High School College & Career team has been hard at work lining up tons of paid high school internship opportunities. There are applications live for E.F. Anderson Construction, Dig Deep Farms, Cypress Mandela Trades Training, Doral's Auto Repair, Rob Skate Academy, and SLED!

SLED is committed to supporting this important program as it provides students with career-focused work experience. And we support it with $30,000 of stipends! Some of the experiences are not offered as paid, so we step in to make sure it's an equitable experience for all students.

College Internships at Ghirardelli Chocolate for SLHS Grads

Back in 2015, SLED and Ghiradelli Chocolate Company teamed up to help provide fantastic summer work opportunities exclusively for college students who graduated from San Leandro. We are incredibly grateful to Ghirardelli for all they do for San Leandro students - the internships are simply outstanding, plus they are one of our biggest and most steadfast sponsors who help fund so many wonderful things!

This year, Ghirardelli has created 9 internships for the summer - that's HUGE! If you have a student who is in college and graduated SLHS or Lincoln in 2021 or 2022, you should have a letter with details - make sure your kid gets to see it so they can apply if interested ;).
